Abstract

Seit Jahren macht eine Kasachin im Internet wissenschaftliche Studien öffentlich zugänglich - unter Bruch des Urheberrechts. Damit hilft sie Wissenschaftlern und wirbt für Open Access. Das hat nun das renommierte Fachmagazin "Nature" anerkannt. Das Fachblatt Nature hat mit Alexandra Elbakyan eine Frau in die Top 10 der Wissenschaft 2016 gewählt, die in einer Schattenbibliothek Dutzende Millionen wissenschaftlicher Artikel ohne Zugangsbeschränkung öffentlich zugänglich macht. Das ist ein weiterer Erfolg für die kasachische Betreiberin des Portals namens Sci-Hub, die angesichts einer drohenden juristischen Niederlage gegen den Wissenschaftsverlag Elsevier untergetaucht sei. Mit Nature habe sie lediglich von einem unbekannten Ort aus über verschlüsselte Nachrichten kommuniziert. Das erinnert an den NSA-Whistleblower Edward Snowden, mit dem die New York Times Elbakyan verglichen hat.
