Abstract

Libraries generally use a standard classification method to group material in their collections (the Charles Stuart Univ. Library uses DDC). However, each particular library has a different profile of patrons and the standard needs to be modified to suit local needs. Examines the capturing of the classifier's knowledge in a way that makes the local classification rules explicit. These rules can be functionally available to librarians not expert in the pecularities of a particular library and library patrons
