Abstract
Soziale Netzwerkseiten (SNS) sind seit der Jahrtausendwende ein zunehmend prägendes Phänomen im World Wide Web, das sich sukzessive über sämtliche Funktionsbereiche der Gesellschaft erstreckt und ihre Kommunikationsstrukturen beeinflusst. Auch das Wissenschaftssystem ist vom Versprechen affiziert, dass ihre 'soziale' Verknüpfungslogik die eigene Kommunikation intensivieren und mannigfaltige Optimierungsmöglichkeiten bieten könnte. Insbesondere Akademische Soziale Netzwerkseiten (ASNS) wie ResearchGate, Academia.edu und Mendeley sind der sichtbare Ausdruck einer Entwicklung, die sich im Rahmen der umfassenden Digitalisierung der Publikations- und Reputationskultur in den Wissenschaften vollzieht. Aufbauend auf einer initialen Skizze der Entwicklungstendenzen im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen wird zunächst die medienspezifische Funktionsökonomie von SNS skizziert und auf die ASNS übertragen. Daran anknüpfend werden anhand der Forschungsliteratur die zentralen Nutzungsmotive und -muster von Wissenschaftlern skizziert, das Verhältnis der ASNS-Nutzung zu institutionellen Open Access-Policies beleuchtet, und schließlich die Konsequenz der ASNS-Ökonomie vor dem Hintergrund szientometrischer Debatten diskutiert. Abschließend wird die Frage erörtert, welche Handlungszwänge bzw. -impulse sich hieraus für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken ergeben können.
