Abstract

Focuses on the integration of information systems into organizations and the impact of information technology on performance. Based on the results of case studies and a preliminary survey, it is found that managers involved in pre- and post-acquisition making often fail to consider the strategic importance of information systems and technology in contributing to the acquisition outcome. Information systems integration is often derived from immediate requirements and organizations fail to invest in information infrastructures to support longer term requirements. The reactive status accorded to information systems couples with a lack of learning within organizations prevents full exploitation of information systems
