    Abstract
For about 10 years, systems such as STATUS, CAIRS and INMAGIC have offered the ability to search for any word in a collection of unstructured text. Until recently, only librarians and documentalists have been interested, but free text retrieval is increasingly valued in the business world in general and all 3 systems are striving for a wider market by adding other features to their established core competence. Illustrates this trend with particualr reference to: STATUS/IQ; CAIRS; TMS and DB/TextWorks (the successor to InMagic Plus)

    Abstract
A comparison was made between CDS/ISIS, ist Windows version WINISIS, and InMagic's INMAGIC and DB/TextWorks software. Packages were evaluated for their database creation, information retrieval and report production capabilities. Windows versions were found to provide significant enhancements over DOS versions of software. The evaluation aimed to determine the advantages to a developing country of creating bibliographic databases using commercial software

    Abstract
Discusses the characteristics and functions of the textual database management program DB/TextWorks 2.0 of Inmagic Inc. Operating on a PC microcomputer in a Windows environment (stand alone or network), it combines the advantages of full text retrieval systems and the flexibility of databases. Presents an evaluation of the program and examines its use in libraries with the DB/TextWorks Library guide kit which proposes database models conceived for various functions; acquisitions, cataloging, loans, OPAC, serials management, and interlibrary loan

    Abstract

    Abstract

    Abstract

    Abstract
Account of the experience of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre CIMMYT based in Mexico, which employs some 100 scientists and 600 support staff. To improve services the library updated its system using DB/Textworks, software which can manage large quantities of text including both data and images. The system is structured into modules for cataloguing, circulation, user information, serials, acquisition and suppliers. The chief advantages for medium sized libraries such as CIMMYT is its simplicity; tasks such as defining databases, creating reports, exchanging information so not require the intervention of computer experts
