    Abstract
    Das Internet verändert den Medienalltag. Damit ist der Computer nicht nur zu einem neuen Informations-, sondern auch zu einem Kommunikationsmedium geworden. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit diesem Hybridmedium, indem insbesondere der Rahmen 'computervermittelter' interpersonaler Kommunikation näher bestimmt und vor dem Hintergrund multipler Medienrahmen verortet wird. Die theoretischen Verortungen werden durch eine empirische Fallstudie ergänzt. Gegenstand der Studie ist die Nutzung der Online-Angebote einer Tageszeitung. Da es sich um die ersten OnlineAktivitäten einer deutschen Tageszeitung überhaupt handelt, hat die Studie für zukünftige Forschungen sogar einen dokumentierenden Charakter.

    Abstract
    Als "Technopol" bezeichnet Postman die Beherrschung einer Zivilisation durch Technik und technizistisches Denken, eine Entwicklung, die der New Yorker Medien-Prof. in den USA am weitesten fortgeschritten sieht. Die Folgen für Individuum und Gesellschaft illustriert er, wie immer in glänzender Diktion und mit sarkastischem Witz, u.a. an der Informationsschwemme, der Apparate-Medizin und der Computertechnologie. Das Schlusskapitel, immerhin, weckt ein Fünkchen Hoffnung auf möglichen Widerstand. Postmans neue Streitschrift (mit Anmerkungen, Bibliographie), thematisch an "Die Verweigerung der Hörigkeit" anknüpfend, reicht weder an die grossen Zeitdiagnosen eines G. Anders heran noch an J. Weizenbaums grundlegende Analyse der "Macht der Computer". Dennoch dürfen Postmans zeitgemässe Kassandrarufe inzwischen allgemeiner Aufmerksamkeit sicher sein.

    Abstract
    Die Etablierung einer neuen Medientechnologie erzeugte zu jeder Zeit als Reaktion auf das bis dahin Unbekannte und Neue positive wie negative Zukunftsvisionen. So wurde und wird etwa an das Internet die Erwartung geknüpft, dass die Menschen sich zu neuen Communities zusammenschließen. Derzeit werden im Kontext der Informationstechnologien auch Utopien diskutiert, die von einem veränderten Verhältnis von Mensch und Technik bzw. Umwelt ausgehen. Welche Mythen und Utopien sind in der Geschichte der Informations- und Kommunikationsmedien entstanden und auch heute noch virulent? Was sagen sie über die Welt aus, in der wir leben? Und welche ethischen Perspektiven sind für eine zukünftige Gestaltung der Informations- und Wissensgesellschaften zu berücksichtigen? Der vorliegende Band mit den Beiträgen des sechsten Symposiums zur Medienethik der Stuttgarter Hochschule der Medien wirft einen kritischen Blick auf bestehende Informations- und Kommunikationsutopien und regt dazu an, diese (immer wieder) auf ihre positiven wie negativen Potentiale zu hinterfragen.

    Abstract
    Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

    Abstract
    Als Erfinder des «Allgemeinen» gilt, gemäß dem Bericht des Aristoteles und seit diesem Bericht, Sokrates. Er ist es, der nicht mehr danach suchte, woraus ein Ding zu dem geworden ist, was es ist, oder wie es entstanden ist, sondern danach, «was [ein Ding] ist», und somit ist Sokrates der erste gewesen, der die Herausarbeitung des Allgemeinen (?a?????) forderte und mit seinen Fragen seine Gesprächspartner zu dieser Herausarbeitung trieb bzw. lockte; die Definition (???sµ??) war das Ziel des sokratischen Gesprächs, und die sokratische Aporie war das Vehikel.

    Abstract
    Jeder Mensch kommuniziert. Das macht ihn zum homo sapiens mit Verstand und Sinn, zugleich bereitet ihm Kommunikation viele Probleme. Als Massenkommunikation über Medien ist Kommunikation längst zu Markt, Produktionsfaktor und gesellschaftlicher Macht geworden. Ständig kommen neue Medien hinzu, die Kommunikation verbreiten, vervielfältigen, erleichtern und verschönern wollen. Doch auch deren Zeichen und Botschaften müssen jeweils kommuniziert werden. So ist Kommunikation sowohl ein geläufiges, mitunter leeres Schlagwort wie auch ein spannendes und bedeutendes Denk- und Handlungsfeld, mit dem sich jeder im Alltag, aber auch fast alle Wissenschaftsdisziplinen befassen. Das Studienbuch will in dieses komplexe, kaum abgrenzbare Feld mit all seinen Aspekten einführen und zieht dazu möglichst viele Erklärungsansätze der Wissenschaften heran. Mehrfach wird die individuelle Reflexion angesprochen.     Abstract
    Für Webseiten ist, wie für alle interaktiven Anwendungen vom einfachen Automaten bis zur komplexen Software, die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von zentraler Bedeutung. Allerdings wird eine sinnvolle Benutzung von Informationsangeboten im World Wide Web häufig durch "cooles Design" unnötig erschwert, weil zentrale Punkte der Benutzerfreundlichkeit (Usability) vernachlässigt werden. Durch Usability Evaluation kann die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von Webseiten und damit auch die Akzeptanz bei den Benutzern verbessert werden. Ziel ist die Gestaltung von ansprechenden benutzerfreundlichen Webangeboten, die den Benutzern einen effektiven und effizienten Dialog ermöglichen.     Werner Faulstichs Geschichte der Medien ist der komprimierte Ertrag langjähriger Forschungsarbeit.     Abstract
    Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.
