- Abstract
- Die Datenbank basierte Objektartenbeschreibung dient zur eigenschaftsbasierten Aufnahme aller Objektarten der Kataloge BNTK, CLC; GMES M 2.1, ATKIS und des DeCOVER Vorschlags. Das Ziel der Datenbankanwendung besteht in der 'manuellen' Beziehungsauswertung und Darstellung der gesamten Objektarten bezogen auf die erstellte Wissensrepräsentation. Anhand einer hierarchisch strukturierten Wissensrepräsentation lassen sich mit Ontologien Überführungen von Objektarten verwirklichen, die im Sinne der semantischen Interoperabilität als Zielstellung in dem Verbundprojekt DeCOVER besteht.

Je eleganter ein Algorithmus ist, desto weniger Rechenpower benötigt er, um zum Ziel zu kommen. Ein besonderes Anliegen des Leitfadens ist es, den Entscheidungsträgern die Notwendigkeit eines barrierefreien Internets zu erklären. Dies geschieht im ersten Abschnitt, in dem ausgehend von der mangelhafte Benutzungsfreundlichkeit des Internets im Allgemeinen die Bedürfnisse behinderter Menschen im Besonderen beschrieben werden. Der Abschnitt 3 Anleitung zur Gestaltung barrierefreier Internet-Seiten gibt Programmierern und Designem konkrete Hinweise welche Techniken in HTML und CSS wie eingesetzt werden müssen, um Barrierefreiheit zu erreichen. Dies reicht von Fragen der Wahmehmbarkeit (Textäquivalente für Audio- und visuelle Inhalte, Schrift und Farbe) über generelle Aspekte der Bedienbarkeit (Orientierung und Navigation, Frames, eingebettete Benutzerschnittstellen, Formulare) und der allgemeinen Verständlichkeit (Sprache, Abkürzungen, Akronyme) bis zur Einhaltung von Standards (W3C unterstützte Formate, Einhaltung von Markup-Standards, Rückwärtskompatibilität, Geräteunabhängigkeit, Kompatibilität mit assistiven Technologien). Im Abschnitt 4 wird die Kommunikation im Internet betrachtet, wobei vor allem auf Fragen des E-Mail-Verkehrs und der Sicherheit eingegangen wird, Aspekte die für alle Internet-Benutzer interessant sind. Im Abschnitt 5 wird dargestellt, wie Internet-Seiten auf Barrierefreiheit geprüft werden können. - Abstract
- Multimedia wird unser Leben vermutlich ähnlich einschneidend verändern, wie der Buchdruck im 15. Jahrhundert unsere gesamte Kultur revolutioniert hat. Welche Veränderungen die neue Kommunikationstechnologie bringen wird, hängt nicht nur von der Hard- und Software der Multimediasysteme ab, sondern auch von der Hard- und Software des Menschen - von Gehirnprozessen und psychologischen 'Programmen' beim Denken, Wahrnehmen und Fühlen. Die Möglichkeiten, aber auch die Grenzen multimedialer Information werden deutlich, wenn man sich etwa vor Augen führt, wie viel Information wir allein beim Sehen ausblenden, wie wir Information im Gedächtnis abspeichern, wie wir verschiedenen Sinne synchronisieren. Auch für Medien gilt: Weniger ist manchmal mehr. Wenn man das Buch in die Hand nimmt und die Demonstrationsprogramme auf der beiliegenden CD-ROM dazu anschaut, wird man verstehen, warum es immer noch gewinnbringend ist, ein Buch zu lesen, und warum es durch ein elektronisches Medium sinnvoll ergänzt werden kann

- Abstract
- Um einen Text zu verstehen, baut der Leser eine Vorstellung davon auf, was im Text beschrieben wird. Wie aber verstehen wir Texte, die von unanschaulichen Zusammenhängen handeln? Kommen wir dabei ohne bildhafte Vorstellungen aus - und denken in "bloßen Begriffen"? Die Natur des begrifflichen Wissens ist in der kognitiven Psychologie seit jeher umstritten. Es wird zunehmend in Frage gestellt, ob abstrakte Begriffe tatsächlich losgelöst von sinnlichen Erfahrungen bestehen. Der Autor verbindet Theorien des Textverstehens, Ideen der Gestaltpsychologie und der Kognitiven Semantik zu einem Modell, nach dem wir auch abstrakte Sachverhalte kognitiv mit den Mitteln des anschaulichen Denkens verarbeiten. Eine experimentelle Untersuchung zeigt, dass die Aktivierung von kinästhetisch-bildhaften Schemata das Lesen und Behalten von abstrakten Aussagen erleichtern kann.

- Abstract
- Die von Wilbert Ubbens und Dr. Willi Höfig im Jahr 1982 begründete und bis zum Jahr 2002 jeweils in Heft 3 dieser Zeitschrift veröffentlichte Bibliographie wird mit der vorliegenden Übersicht fortgesetzt. Die Gliederung nach Schlagwörtern und die Zitierweise wurden weitgehend beibehalten, um sowohl die Orientierung zu erleichtern als auch spätere Hinweise auf diese Bibliographie zu vereinfachen. Wo nötig, wurden wieder erläuternde Hinweise in englischer Sprache hinzugefügt. Für diese Übersicht wurden auch Nachweise aus den verwandten Bereichen der Archive, Dokumentationsstellen und Museen aufgenommen, um die für Zeitungen wünschenswerte spartenübergreifende Zusammenarbeit zu fördern.
