    Abstract
    Das wachsende Informationsvolumen im WWW führt paradoxerweise zu einer immer schwierigeren Nutzung, das Finden und Verknüpfen von Informationen in einem unstrukturierten Umfeld wird zur Sisyphosarbeit. Hier versprechen Semantic-Web-Ansätze Abhilfe. Die Autoren beschreiben Technologien, wie eine semantische Integration verteilter Daten durch verteilte Ontologien erreicht werden kann. Diese Techniken sind sowohl für Forscher als auch für Professionals interessant, die z.B. die Integration von Produktdaten aus verteilten Datenbanken im WWW oder von lose miteinander verbunden Anwendungen in verteilten Organisationen implementieren sollen.

    Abstract
    Dieses Buch ist ein Problemlöser für Projektmanager, die den Einsatz von Hyperteextsystemen erwägen, ebenso für die Entwickler und auch für den interessierten Anwender, der die Hintergründe von Hypertextsystemen verstehen will. Präzise Informationen zu den Grundlagen von Hypertext schaffen die Basis sich sicher in diesem Feld zu bewegen, sich gezielt weitergehende Information zu beschaffen und eigenständig Entwicklungstendenzen abzuschätzen. Eine ausführliche Beschreibung der Entwicklung von Hypertextanwendungen leistet die notwendige Hilfe für die Gestaltung von Hypertexten. Der Leser wird in die Lage versetzt, Chancen und Probleme von Hypertextprojekten frühzeitig zu erkennen und optimale Lösungen zu finden.     Abstract
    Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.

    Abstract
    Wissensrepräsentation ist die Wissenschaft, Technik und Anwendung von Methoden und Werkzeugen, Wissen derart abzubilden, damit dieses in digitalen Datenbanken optimal gesucht und gefunden werden kann. Sie ermöglicht die Gestaltung von Informationsarchitekturen, die - auf der Grundlage von Begriffen und Begriffsordnungen arbeitend - gestatten, Wissen in seinen Bedeutungszusammenhängen darzustellen. Ohne elaborierte Techniken der Wissensrepräsentation ist es unmöglich, das "semantische Web" zu gestalten. Das Lehrbuch vermittelt Kenntnisse über Metadaten und beschreibt eingehend sowohl dokumentarische wie bibliothekarische Ansätze der Inhaltserschließung (Thesauri und Klassifikationssysteme), Bemühungen der Informatik um Begriffsordnungen (Ontologien) als auch nutzerkonzentrierte Entwicklungen im Web 2.0 (Folksonomies). Es geht um das Auswerten und Bereitstellen von Informationen bei Diensten im World Wide Web, bei unternehmensinternen Informationsdiensten im Kontext des betrieblichen Wissensmanagement sowie bei fachspezifischen professionellen (kommerziellen) Datenbanken. Das Buch richtet sich an Studierende der Informationswissenschaft, Informationswirtschaft und der Wirtschaftsinformatik an Hochschulen in deutschsprachigen Raum wie auch an Studierende des Bibliothekswesens. Darüber hinaus finden auch Wissensmanager und Informationsmanager in der Unternehmenspraxis wertvolle Hinweise.

Die Aufmachung des Bandes als eigenständige Monografie führt etwas in die Irre, denn faktisch handelt es sich um den zweiten Teil der »Einführung in die Informationswissenschaft«. Diese wird im Vorwort als Reihe bezeichnet, scheint aber von der Sache her eher ein mehrbändiges Werk zu sein. Tatsächlich wird im Text häufig auf den ersten Teil »Information Retrieval« verwiesen und empfohlen, beide Bände nebeneinander zu verwenden (Seite XVI). . . .
    Ist die inhaltliche Breite fraglos ein Plus des Bandes, so sind leider auch einige Schwächen zu konstatieren. Diese betreffen einerseits die fachliche Seite, andererseits die didaktische Aufbereitung des Stoffes. In den bibliothekarischen Teilen trifft man allzu oft auf sachliche Fehler, irreführende Formulierungen, offensichtliche Missverständnisse, unsaubere Terminologie und schwer nachvollziehbare Auslassungen. . . . Echte Wissenslücken haben die Autoren bei der SWD, die sie »als Paradigma einer allgemeinen Nomenklatur« (Seite 176) vorstellen. Während eine Nomenklatur üblicherweise als Teilmenge der Terminologie eines Fachgebiets angesehen wird, die nur die Benennungen der Objekte des Fachgebiets umfasst, verstehen die Autoren darunter eine einfache Schlagwortliste, die »grundsätzlich keine hierarchischen Relationen« enthält (Seite 176). Dass in der SWD aber sehr wohl Oberbegriffe erfasst werden und sie damit eben keine »Nomenklatur« im Stockschen Sinne ist, haben die Autoren nicht bemerkt. . . .
    Abschließend bleibt ein zwiespältiger Eindruck: Fraglos ist die »Wissensrepräsentation« eine Bereicherung für die leider allzu überschaubare monografische Literatur zur Sacherschließung in deutscher Sprache. Der Band enthält eine gewaltige Stoff- und Materialfülle und bezieht auch aktuelle Entwicklungen wie das Tagging mit ein. Für Bibliothekare ist es außerdem nützlich, das Thema einmal aus primär informationswissenschaftlicher Perspektive zu betrachten; gerade Fortgeschrittene werden bei der Lektüre manche interessante Anregung erhalten. Für den eigentlich intendierten Zweck - nämlich als umfassendes Lehrbuch - kann man Studierenden der Bibliothekswissenschaft das Werk allerdings nur unter Vorbehalt empfehlen. In der Lehre wird es daher wohl nur eine ergänzende Rolle neben anderer Literatur (etwa der bereits erwähnten, ausgesprochen gelungenen »Einführung in die inhaltliche Erschließung« von Jutta Bertram) einnehmen können.

    Abstract
    Diskussionen um Datennetze und Informationstechnik drehen sich häufig um kompetentes Handeln. In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

    Abstract
    Als Erfinder des «Allgemeinen» gilt, gemäß dem Bericht des Aristoteles und seit diesem Bericht, Sokrates. Er ist es, der nicht mehr danach suchte, woraus ein Ding zu dem geworden ist, was es ist, oder wie es entstanden ist, sondern danach, «was [ein Ding] ist», und somit ist Sokrates der erste gewesen, der die Herausarbeitung des Allgemeinen (?a?????) forderte und mit seinen Fragen seine Gesprächspartner zu dieser Herausarbeitung trieb bzw. lockte; die Definition (???sµ??) war das Ziel des sokratischen Gesprächs, und die sokratische Aporie war das Vehikel.

    Abstract
    Das Historische Wörterbuch der Philosophie (HWPh), im Zeitraum von 1971 bis 2007 unter Mitwirkung von mehr als 1500 Fachgelehrten entstanden, ist eines der umfassendsten, bedeutendsten und auch erfolgreichsten Publikationsprojekte der jüngeren deutschsprachigen Geisteswissenschaften. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Lexika oder Enzyklopädien basiert das HWPh nicht auf einer Geschichte philosophischer Ideen oder Probleme, sondern auf der Geschichte der philosophischen Begriffe. In 12 Textbänden sowie einem abschliessenden Registerband dokumentiert das Lexikon in 17144 Spalten und rund 6000 Artikeln anhand zahlreicher präziser Belege und Stellenangaben Herkunft und Genese von insgesamt 3670 philosophischen Begriffen und beschreibt den Wandel ihrer Bedeutung und Funktion von ihrem ersten Auftreten bis heute. Das Konzept der begriffsgeschichtlichen Methode macht sowohl synchronisch Stellung und Bedeutung einzelner Begriffe in bestimmten Epochen oder bei bestimmten Philosophinnen und Philosophen als auch diachronisch deren Bedeutungsveränderungen innerhalb der abendländischen Philosophiegeschichte nachvollziehbar. Um die spezifisch philosophische Begriffsarbeit im Kontext des gesamten Wissenschaftssystems zu veranschaulichen, werden zudem auch Begriffe aus angrenzenden Fachgebieten - Theologie, Psychologie, Pädagogik, Soziologie, Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte, Politik, Jurisprudenz, Medizin sowie aus den Naturwissenschaften - behandelt.

    Abstract
    TEX ist ein Satzsystem (kein Textverarbeitungssystem!), das die Möglichkeit gibt, schnell professionell gesetzte Texte mathematischer Formeln zu erzeugen. Gegenüber der 2. Auflage (BA 6/88) wesentlich überarbeitet. Berücksichtigt werden jetzt die Leistungserweiterungen der neuen Version 3.0, insbesondere bei der Eingabe deutscher Umlaute, bei Möglichkeiten zum Trennen und bei der Beeinflussung des Satzumbruchs.
