Abstract

The ANSI Z39.50 protocol standard and the ISO SR standard are search and retrieval application layer protocol standards within the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model. Jointly they are referred to as the IR standard. Explains the role of the IR standard and describes its implementation in the US, Europe, Canada. Details the components of the IR software which was completed in Sept 93 and its application at the National Library of Canada
