Abstract

Components of the electronic library have existed for over a decade. Online databases have long since been a source of information for librarians and library users. Automated library housekeeping systems have been available for many years. Electronic networks are increasingly used in libraries and by remote users to satisfy information enquirues and provide an alternative publishing mechanism to the traditional publishing chain. Librarians and academics are advised to work with publishers to find a new position within the technology framework so that publishers' organising abilities will flourish to the advantage of all
