Abstract

Describes an alternative to both the LCSH and Australian Bibliographic Network (ABN) methods of indirect geographic subdivision for headings involved Australian geographic names that gives better keyword retrieval and better browsing displays than either of these. The new approach has been implemented at the University of Tasmania Library and may be seen in use in the Library's OPAC through AARNET, and the ABN Standards Committee has been asked to consider it for ABN
