Abstract

Research libraries have invested in large microform sets for many years to provide rare and valuable materials to support library patron research needs. In the last 10 years, the bibliographic control of microform sets has improved greatly. Bibliographic utilities, especially through OCLC's Major Microforms Project, have provided opportunities for cataloguing selected sets in a reliable cost-effective way. Material long buried are now becoming accessible through libraries' online catalogues. Discusses the problems with microform sets and responses to them; catalogues versus finding aids; catalogue credibility and avoiding major post tapeload cleanups; and cooperation between reference and technical services
