Abstract

Describes the editorial process at the Mathematical Reviews (MR). MR provides reviews of summaries of all articles and books that contain new contributions to mathematics at the research level. A complex acquisition system that includes arragements with publishers and universities all over the world is in operation. About 1.800 periodicals are now received and of those over 400 are reviewed cover to cover. Outlines the selection process to determine those items which should be reviewed, describes how books and articles are classified and how the reviewer is chosen. Gives details of the editorial process and indicates where delays may arise. Provided reviewers are prompt, most appers and books will be reviewed in the year of publication or in the following year. Suggests how authors can hellp to make MR more useful. During its first 50 years MR has achieved high standards in providing comprehensive and informed coverage of the world's mathematical literature
