Abstract

Considers the challenges network service providers will have to face in the near future. Discusses what a typical corporate user is likely to experience today. Introduces usability issues. Discusses relevant standardization efforts. Outlines advanced applications and their needs for enhanced application layer services, which will in turn impact on the functionality required from the underlying trnasfer system. Addresses the need of guaranteed and negotiable Quality of Service. Introduces the network infrastructure which will become necessary to transport the huge volume of data likely to be produced by disturbed multimedia applications
