Abstract
Internet, WWW, Online, Surfen - eine Flut dieser und ähnlicher Begriffe hat sich in den letzten Jahren über die Medien verbreitet. Kryptische Wortkürzel wir http:// dürfen scheinbar in keinem Werbespot mehr fehlen. Das Wort von der Internet-Euphorie macht die Runde. Doch was hat es damit eigentlich auf sich? Was sind die Hintergründe dieses Spektakels? Ist das WWW wirklich der Vorreiter der globalen Kommunikation, als der es vielfach gepriesen wird? Der folgende Artikel versucht, eine Diskussionsgrundlage für die genannten Fragen bereitzustellen. Hierzu soll insbesondere die bisherige Entwicklung des WWW dargestellt werden, bevor eine Reihe von Potentialen und Problemen aufgezeigt wird
