Abstract

Online cataloguing started 10 years ago at BN-OPALE, the database for books and periodicals of the BN. There are now 4 databases run by the BN, all of them managing bibliographic and authority records. Authority cataloguing in those 4 databases is articulated around the same basic format, INTERMARC(A), which has been adopted in BN-OPALINE and LORIS-EVER by the addition of new tags and coded fields. In 1997 these various databases will be merged in the information system of the BN which will give access to printed documents as well as audiovisual and electronic material. Discusses shared cataloguing in BN-OPALE; authority services and partner libraries; exchanging data: co-operation with BN-Tolbiac database; co-operation with other databases of the BN: BN-OPALINE and LORIS-EVER; co-operation through services and products; RAMEAU and subject authority; other authority products; the updating of national and international standards; international cooperation; French-Polish cooperation on subject authority headings; and the European 'AUTHOR' project
