Abstract

Audio description is the art of describing the visual scene and action of a visual entertainment form in order that blind and vision impaired people can enjoy television, films and plays. The process has been used in the USA since 1981 in theatres and museums. A number of videos with audio descriptions are available in the uS and UK, but the technique is only just beginning to be used in Australia. The Royal Blind Society library has carried out an informal survey of demand by borrowers, and as a result is seeking funding to start a service as soon as possible
