Abstract

Focuses on the use of questioning techniques in the reference interview with international students, and in particular the use of the neutral question in a reference encounter and how the potential usefulness of this kind of questioning techniques may be lost. The librarian needs to create a suitable environment where the effectiveness of the neutral question is maximised, and where the affirmation phase of the reference encounter consolidates the process. Incorporates ideas from the literature and from personal experience
