Abstract

Argues that special librarians are NOT in the information business and NOT able to manage knowledge: the 'information age' ended sometime in 1995. In order to explain the adoption of this position, revisits some of the language and assumptions about the building blocks of information, knowlegde, and organizations, as well as the process of knowledge creation and use. By illustrating the existence of a 'knowldedge continuum' aims to influence the future and positioning of special librarianship. Lists selected Web sites dealing with knowledge management
