Abstract

Describes briefly the first project for cooperative cataloguing in Russia, in 1995, with particular reference to aims of the future Russian Centre of Cooperative Cataloguing (RCCC). Focuses on the technical issues and common principles for the functioning of the scheme, notably the use of: common national cataloguing rules based on ISBD; a national communication format based on the Russian customization of UNIMARC; and a common program and technical support of the system. Illustrates the scheme designed to allow use of foreign cataloguing data from sources such as OCLC
