Details the need for the protection of data in a database management system. Discusses a programme (DBCHECK) for checking common problems found in ISIS databases, developed as part of the circulation system in the author's library at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, India. DBCHECK enables checking for data corruption, and is available as a separate programme to check any CDS/ISIS database
