Abstract
The DOI system, originally developed by the Association of american Publishers has now become an international effort whose ownership has been transferred to a new non-profit-making organization, the International DOI foundation. Explains how the DOI system works in the digital environment and outlines the issues of concerns to publishers, libraries and users currently being debated in a number of national ind international fora. 2 important discussions of DOI-related topics can be found on the Book Industry Communication (BIC) Internet site
