Abstract

Highlights current archival needs. Emphasis in addressing problems of electronic format deficiency and incompatibility is currently focusing on developing platform-independent, nonproprietary electronic archival description (EAD) tools to meet a cooperative international standard. Describes EAD which is a document type definition of SGML and how it works. Outlines EAD related information on the Web. Describes 2 projects assessing the implication of applying EAD: the California Heritage Project, and the Online Archive of California (OAC) Project
