Der erste Teil von Beih.9 zu IfB bietet eine Typologie der biographische Informationsmittel (u.a.: Definition; Einteilung; Anlage; Register; Beigaben; Veröffentlichungsform und Erscheinungsweise; Bewertung; Bibliographien und Indizes; Auswahl und Angebot), die mit Exempla illustriert wird, die vorzugsweise aus dem zweiten Teil gewählt wurden. Dieser enthält Einzel- und Komplexrezensionen von 836 internationalen und regionalen, allgemeinen und fachlichen biographischen Informationsmitteln und werden durch ein Schlagwortregister erschlossen
