Abstract
Immer mehr Bibliotheken bieten ihren Kunden die Möglichkeit, die technologischen Neuerungen auch in ihren Räumlichkeiten zu nutzen. Eine der zahlreichen Einrichtungen in Bibliotheken ist die Einführung von Computerarbeitsplätzen mit dem Zugang zu kommerziellen Online-Archiven. Eine repräsentative Umfrage in einer Kleinstadtbibliothek versuchte zu ermitteln, ob eine wirkliche Nachfrage nach dieser Dienstleistung besteht oder sich eine solche Investition als Flop erweisen würde. Erstaunlicherweise war das Ergebnis positiver als erwartet; die Resonanz vor allem in den Kundengruppen mit professionellem Interesse überstieg die Erwartungen
