Abstract
Eines der Hauptprobleme beim Nachweis und Retrieval von Internetressourcen besteht in der Schwierigkeit, sie eindeutig zu identifizieren, zu authentifizieren und nachaltig zu adressieren - kurz gesagt: im Fehlen von Persistent Identifiern. Die URLs, die Standortangaben im Internet, die als Zugriffs-Signaturen dienen, stellen sich häufig als unzuverlässige Adressen heraus. Entfällt eine URL, ist die Ressource ganz wie ein verstelltes Buch nicht mehr auffindbar und damit für die Nutzung verloren. Selbst wenn das Dokument unter anderer Anschrift weiter existieren sollte, ohne Kenntnis der neuen Adresse ist ein Zugriff unmöglich. So sind andere, persistente Identifier notwendig, um schnell, zuverlässig, sicher und dauerhaft den weltweiten Zugriff auf die Ressourcen zu regeln
