Abstract

Examines considerations for purchasing remote host databases. Identifies vendor product strategies of EBSCO Information Services Information Access Company, and UMI. When evaluating their products the following issues should be taken into account: database features, capability and content; the effect of remote host on library users, procedures and equipment; user interface, control and cancellations. Reports a computerized analysis of product lines of the 3 major vendors in 1996 to illustrate analytical methods for making title comparison
