Abstract
Wer einen Brenner in den Computer steckt, steht bald beim Rohling-Kauf vor Regalen - beschriftet mit CD-R, CD-RW oder Audio CD. Je nachdem, ob ein paar Daten gesichert, komplette Software-CDs kopiert oder Audio-CDs angelegt werden sollen, empfiehlt sich mal der eine und mal der andere CD-Typ.

"Wer seine Daten, seine Lieblingsmusik oder wichtige Sicherheitskopien für die Ewigkeit retten möchte, der sollte unbedingt Rohlinge mit einer goldenen Reflexionsschicht benutzen. Der Grund dafür ist einfach: Gold rostet nicht, im Gegensatz zu anderen Metallen. Das billigere Silber korrodiert nach einer gewissen Zeit und läuft schwarz an. Rohlinge mit korrodierter Silberschicht sind zu nichts mehr zu gebrauchen - weder zum Brennen, noch zum Wiedereinlesen bereits gespeicherter Daten. Die Hersteller versuchen schon seit Jahren, dem Silber das Korrodieren abzugewöhnen, bislang ohne durchgreifenden Erfolg. Irgendwann - und sei es nach 25 Jahren - wird die silberne Reflexionsschicht schwarz. Die Farben, die die Rohlinge haben, werden von der Reflexionsschicht (gold oder silber) und den Farbstoffen der Farbschicht (Cyanin -bläulich, Phthalocyanin farblos, Azo tiefblau) verursacht. Eine Cyaninfarbschicht und eine goldene Reflexionsschicht ergeben beispielsweise einen dunkelgrün schimmernden Rohling. Sind Rohlinge von Markenfirmen besser als No-Name-Produkte? Grundsätzlich nicht. Es gibt aber kaum qualitativ hochwertige goldene Rohlinge ohne Markenschriftzug. Wer für die Ewigkeit archiviert, findet die hierfür empfehlenswerten goldenen Rohlinge fast nur bei den Markenherstellern. Bei allen anderen Rohlingen gilt der Grundsatz: Probieren geht über studieren: Wessen gebrannte BilligCD im Rechner oder in der Hifi-Anlage gut läuft, kann bei dem CD-Typ bleiben. Erst nach einem solchen Test sollten größere Mengen gekauft werden. Auf eine Audio-CD passen normalerweise nicht mehr als 74 Minuten Spielzeit. Die Musikindustrie nutzt alle Toleranzgrenzen aus - und schafft so Scheiben mit bis zu 80 Minuten Länge. Wer eine solche CD kopieren möchte, benötigt einen Rohling mit Überlänge - mit einem Fassungsvermögen von 700 Megabyte. Gewöhnliche Rohlinge speichern bis zu 650 Megabyte. Auch der Brenner und die Brennsoftware müssen überlange Rohlinge unterstützen - was beileibe nicht alle tun. Es gibt inzwischen sogar Rohlinge mit einer Spieldauer von 99 Minuten (870 Megabyte), doch die Unterstützung der Scheiben durch Brenner und Software hält sich in Grenzen. Zusammengefasst: Wer ein paar Daten oder Programme tauschen möchten, kann auf billigste CD-Rohlinge zurückgreifen. Sicherheitskopien wichtiger Daten sollten auf Marken-Rohlinge gebrannt werden. Für regelmäßige Sicherungen empfehlen sich wiederbeschreibbare CD-RWs. Wer eigene Audio-CDs zusammenstellen oder kopieren möchte, kann zu hochwertigen Rohlingen greifen. Bei blauen oder grünen Rohlingen sollte probiert werden, ob die Abspielgeräte die gebrannten Disks mögen. Die teuren Audio-Rohlinge unterscheiden sich nicht in der Qualität, sondern in dem höheren Preis: Darin ist eine Abgabe für die Musik-Verwertungsgesellschaft Gema. Es besteht derzeit keine Verpflichtung, diese Gebühr zu bezahlen."
