Abstract
Hans Magnus Enzensberger hat sich seit seinen literarischen Anfängen immer wieder mit naturwissenschaftlichen Themen, mit Wissenschaftsgeschichte und mit den Erkenntnismethoden und Biographien der Forscher beschäftigt. Seine mittlerweile legendären »Siebenunddreißig Balladen aus der Geschichte des Fortschritts« wurden vor mehr als einem Vierteljahrhundert in dem Band Mausoleum veröffentlicht. Für ihn ist es ganz selbstverständlich, daß die Poesie und die Wissenschaften nicht nur eine gemeinsame Wurzel haben, sondern ihre Begegnung auf Augenhöhe heute mehr denn je zukunftsträchtig und notwendig ist. Daß ein Poet sich mit Mathematik und Chemie, Medizin und Teilchenphysik und Genetik zu beschäftigen hat, wenn er in der Literatur ernst genommen werden will, gilt ihm als ausgemacht; um so mehr, als die Entdeckung der Poesie in den Wissenschaften selbst »unseren trägen Hirnen ein gewisses Fitneß-Training und ganz ungewohnte Lustgefühle verschaffen könnte«. Für diesen Band hat Enzensberger Gedichte aus seinem Gesamtwerk bis hin zu seinem zuletzt erschienenen Band Leichter als Luft (1999) und unveröffentlichten Manuskripten zusammengestellt; dazu gesellen sich acht umfangreiche, z.T. bislang ungedruckte Aufsätze.
