Content: "Eine neue Öffentliche Bibliothek hat eröffnet: am 24. Februar nahm die Deutsche Internetbibliothek (DIB) ihren Betrieb im Internet auf. Bereits zur Eröffnung standen mehr als 2.000 qualitätsgeprüfte Links auf den virtuellen Regalen - inzwischen ist der Bestand auf über 3.700 Einträge gewachsen. Der Start der Internetbibliothek hat ein bundesweites Medienecho hervorgerufen, was sich an den Abrufzahlen der Website ablesen lässt. Seit ihrem Start wurden die Seiten der DIB insgesamt 215.822-mal abgerufen. Anhand der Auswertung der Klickzahlen lässt sich bereits ein Spitzenreiter im Kundeninteresse festmachen: die Rubrik "Computer & Internet' führt knapp vor "Aktuelles" und "Nachschlagewerke & Bibliotheken". 134 Mailanfragen gingen bislang bei der DIB ein - und wurden von den rund 170 Lektorinnen und Lektoren in der Regel innerhalb eines Tages beantwortet. Im Laufe des April werden weitere Marketingmaßnahmen in den Bibliotheken folgen, um diese Zahlen noch deutlich zu steigern. Die DIB ist nicht einfach ein weiterer Katalog im Internet -sondern ein unabhängiges und nichtkommerzielles deutschsprachiges Informationsportal, das es jedem Internet-Nutzer ermöglichen soll, einfach und schnell an qualitativ hochwertige Informationen zu gelangen. Das war bislang mit kommerziellen Suchmaschinen nicht immer möglich: zu häufig sind die Suchergebnisse trotz vieler tausend Treffer unbrauchbar oder von zweifelhafter Verlässlichkeit. Zudem gibt es bisher keine umfassende und für alle Bürger zugängliche Informationsmöglichkeit, die ausgewählte InternetQuellen mit anderen Medienformaten verbindet. Hier schafft die Deutsche Internetbibliothek Abhilfe. Unter der Adresse www.internetbibliothek.de finden die Kunden zwei zentrale Angebote: einen Link-Katalog und die E-Mail-Auskunft."
