Abstract
Das menschliche Genom ist gelesen, und erneut wird die Debatte über die "Allmacht der Gene" geführt, die angeblich über den Einfluss der Umwelt triumphierten. Da ist selbst Craig Venter, Leiter von Celera Genomics, Gewinner des Wettrennens um die Komplett-Entschlüsselung des Erbguts, vorsichtiger. Spricht er doch von einem "Zusammenspiel sämtlicher Gene und unserer Umwelt". Damit bekräftigt er, was Neurowissenschaftler schon längst behaupten. Wir kommen zwar mit einem genetischen Programm auf die Welt, aber dessen Realisierung - so Lothar Pickenhain - "wird durch den speziellen Charakter der jeweiligen sozialen (kulturellen) Umwelt geprägt." Der Leipziger Hirnforscher wird nicht müde in diesem Zusammenhang auf die Verpflichtungen der Gesellschaft hinzuweisen - übrigens auch gegenüber behinderten Kindern
