"Neues kann die Encarta in Form einer Suchleiste bieten. Diese lässt sich in der Taskleiste einblenden und erlaubt den sofortigen Start einer Recherche, gleich welche Programme gerade geladen sind. Besitzer der Professional-Ausgabe kommen außerdem in den Genuss einer Kindervariante. Diese enthält ausgewählte, kindgerecht aufbereitete Artikel und wird als eigenes Programm gestartet. Auch der kostenlose Zugriff auf die Artikel von MSN Encarta Premium im Web ist auf die Professional-Ausga be beschränkt. Dieses Feature läuft allerdings mitdem 31. Oktober 2005 aus. Daraus ergibt sich die kuriose Situation, dass sich der Nutzwert mit der Zeit verringert. Dies gilt auch für den integrierten Online-Englischkurs, der allerdings bis zum Dezember haltbar ist. Erwirbt man also im Frühjahr oder gar noch im Sommer die Encarta, erhält man weniger für sein Geld. Ob das auf der Verpackung steht? Natürlich, und zwar auf der Unterseite am Ende des Kleinstgedruckten. Wer da seine Lupe nicht dabei hat..."
