Abstract
In seiner Einführung zeigt Gilles Deleuze, daß der Empirismus des David Hume (1711-1776) andere Geheimnisse hat, als die Philosophiegeschichte wahrhaben will, wenn sie ihn als Gegenpol zum Rationalismus ad acta legen zu können glaubt. Humes Denken ist bis heute ein Unruheherd in der Philosophie geblieben. Diese Philosophie zeichnet uns eine seltsame und rätselhafte Science-fiction-Welt, die von Geschöpfen gesehen wird, die uns fremd scheinen, sich aber als merkwürdig verwandt entpuppen. Sie spürt Fragen nach, die ungewöhnlich, uns aber dennoch vertraut sind: Inwieweit kann man Besitzer der Meere sein, wieso kann in einem Rechtssystem der Boden wichtiger sein als die Oberfläche, andererseits aber auch die Farbe wichtiger als die Leinwand, auf die sie aufgetragen worden ist? Die berühmte Lehre von der Assoziation unserer Vorstellungen erweist sich als das Fundament, von dem aus die Fiktionen zu ermitteln sind, die in den Tatsachen des Rechts, der Moral und der Kultur Gestalt angenommen haben und erfahrungskonstituierende, unser Denken und Handeln bestimmende Realitäten sind.
