Abstract
Das nationalbibliographische Unternehmen VD 16 begann vor 35 Jahren konventionell, d. h. ohne Unterstützung der maschinellen Datenverarbeitung, die erst für die Drucklegung der Registerbände genutzt werden konnte. Der folgende Beitrag berichtet über die gegenwärtige Arbeit an der VD-16-Datenbank, die mittlerweile eine zeitgemäße Pflege der Katalogisate ermöglicht. Bisher sind bereits mehr als 25.000 Aufnahmen zusätzlich zum Grundwerk maschinenlesbar erfasst. Im Jahr 2004 werden die Aufnahmen des Grundwerks konvertiert. Die Weiterführung in einer offenen Datenbank erlaubt laufende Korrekturen und Ergänzungen, die weit über die Buchausgabe hinausführen.
