Abstract

Daten sind nichtgleich Daten. Die Art und Weise, wie sie im Unternehmen benötigt werden, machen den Wert der gespeicherten Informationen für das Unternehmen aus. An erster Stelle der Wertskala stehen unternehmenskritische Daten. Diese müssen permanent verfügbar sein, damit die Geschäftsprozesse nicht zum Stillstand kommen. Am anderen Ende stehen unkritische Daten, die man möglicherweise aus rechtlichen Gründen noch aufbewahren muss, die aber im eigentlichen Geschäft der Organisation keine Rolle mehr spielen. Dazwischen ist in vielen Abstufungen der restliche Datenbestand angesiedelt. Der Wert einer Information ist auch im zeitlichen Ablauf nicht immer gleich. Er ändert sich im Verlauf seines individuellen Lebenszyklus. Information Lifecycle Management setzt an diesem Punkt an. Damit wird das Daten-Management auf alle Phasen des gesamten Lebenszyklus der Daten ausgeweitet - von der Entstehung bis zur Löschung.
