Abstract
"Der Mensch ist das Maß aller Dinge" - so lautet der bekannte Satz des Protagoras. Doch zweieinhalbtausend Jahre später scheinen die Menschen maßlos, ja vermessen geworden zu sein: Sie zerstören ohne Rücksicht auf die kommenden Generationen die Umwelt, in der sie leben, und gefährden den Fortbestand menschlichen Lebens durch eine Waffentechnik, die außer Kontrolle zu geraten droht. Vor diesem Hintergrund kritisiert Georg Picht die neuzeitliche europäische Rationalität: Der Traum von den unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten der Technik habe sich als Wahn erwiesen. In seinem "Philosophieren nach Auschwitz und Hiroshima" geht es aber nicht nur um die geistigen Hintergründe der globalen Krise, sondern auch und vor allem um Auswege: Soll die Zukunft der Menschlichkeit der Menschen gesichert werden, müssen wir uns auf unsere Vernunft und Freiheit sowie auf die ökologische Weisheit unserer eigenen Tradition besinnen. Wer etwas gegen das herrschende Weltbild setzen und politisch handeln will, braucht eine weitere Perspektive, denn der Mensch ist "ein Lebewesen, das sich selbst nur im Horizont des Universums zu verstehen vermag". Und er braucht Mut zur Utopie: "Was heute als zeitgemäß gilt, ist morgen veraltet; Zukunft hat nur das Unzeitgemäße." Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker, Pichts guter Freund und intellektueller Weggefährte, hat Texte zusammengestellt, die Georg Picht als scharfsichtigen Vordenker der ökologischen Bewegung ausweisen und deutlich machen, daß seine Ideen und Analysen weiterhin von höchster Aktualität sind.
