Abstract
Seit 1975 betreut die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin im Rahmen des von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) geförderten Systems der Überregionalen Literaturversorgung das Sondersammelgebiet (SSG) Rechtswissenschaft. Mit über 900.000 Bänden an Monographien, Zeitschriften, Gesetzesblättern und Entscheidungssammlungen verfügt die Staatsbibliothek heute über eine der größten Sammlungen an juristischen Quellen und Sekundärliteratur in Deutschland. Aufgabe der SSG-Bibliotheken war und ist es, konventionelle fachwissenschaftliche Literatur umfassend zu erwerben, zu erschließen und für die überregionale Literaturversorgung zur Verfügung zu stellen. Seit Ende der neunziger Jahre betreibt die DFG die Weiterentwicklung des SSG-Systems zu einem Netzwerk Virtueller Fachbibliotheken (ViFa), die in der Regel an der entsprechenden SSG-Bibliothek aufgebaut werden. Innerhalb der Virtuellen Fachbibliotheken wird der ursprüngliche Sondersammelgebietsauftrag auf fachwissenschaftliche Publikationen und Informationen ausgeweitet, die in digitaler Form produziert werden, also auch auf den gesamten Bereich des Internets. Inzwischen gibt es mehr als 25 von der DFG geförderte Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken. Einige sind noch im Aufbau, andere haben den Projektstatus bereits verlassen und befinden sich im Routinebetrieb.
