Abstract
Zum Auftakt des Wintersemesters 2004/ 2005 am Fachbereich Informations- und Wissensmanagement der FH Darmstadt stellte die Autorin im Austausch mit Kolleginnen aus den USA fünf Thesen zur aktuellen Entwicklung der Bibliothekswissenschaft in Deutschland vor. 1. Die Geburt der Bibliothekswissenschaft aus dem Geist der Informationswissenschaft": Die Abgrenzung eines festgelegten Berufsfeldes "Bibliothek" ist obsolet. 2. Informations- und Bibliothekswissenschaft werden in Zeiten empfundener Bildungskrisen und umfassender Bildungsreformen zu einem grundsätzlichen Bestandteil des wissenschaftlichen Denkens. 3. Die Bibliothekswissenschaft beteiligt sich maßgeblich an aktuellen Funktionsbestimmungen der Bibliotheken; allerdings wird die Re-Etablierung der Bibliotheken als Bildungs- und Kulturinstitutionen entscheidend von bildungspolitischen Prämissen abhängen. 4. Die Professionalisierung des Berufes ist nicht abgeschlossen: Der Prozess der Spezialisierung und der gleichzeitigen Erweiterung des Berufsbildes sollte als kontinuierliche Herausforderung verstanden werden. 5. Eine Bibliothekswissenschaft in Deutschland ist ohne den internationalen Austausch nicht mehr denkbar.
