Abstract

»Vergessen Sie alles, was Sie übers Internet sowieso nicht wissen« - so warb vor einigen Jahren ein Internet-Anbieter für kinderleichte, also für Alltagsmenschen beherrschbare Zugänge zum Internet. Dies ist zweifach interessant: Erstens erfordert der Zugang zum Netz kein spezialisiertes technisches Know-how, eigentlich keinerlei Insiderwissen. Mehr noch: Der Online-Provider wirbt nicht mit Wissen, sondern mit Nicht-Wissen. Zweitens leuchtet dieser Werbespruch eindrucksvoll ein ganzes erkenntnistheoretisches Feld aus; eines, das von »wissen«, über »nicht mehr wissen«, »noch nicht wissen« und »nicht wissensrelevant« bis zu »nicht wissen« reicht - einem seit den 90er Jahren zentralen Thema modernisierungstheoretischer Debatten. Dem Verb »vergessen« haftet nämlich das Gewusste an: Es war da, ist aber verschwunden, verloren gegangen oder nicht in die Sphäre des Bewusstgewordenen aufgestiegen. In jedem Fall ist es nicht mehr da. »Was Sie sowieso nicht wissen« dagegen bezeichnet deutlich das Gebiet des Nicht-Wissens - und das ist hier das in seiner Irrelevanz schon wieder relevant gewordene Wissen. Was hier geschieht, ist eine Umwertung von Wissen: Nicht-Wissen ist eine Qualität des privaten und professionellen Alltags, die es zu schützen und zu pflegen gilt. Nicht-Wissen ist ein Wert: Auch eine onlineskeptische Generation soll sich nicht mit zusätzlichem Wissen belasten müssen. Weil das Internet den Zugang zu Information und den Umgang von Kommunikation auf eine so dramatische Weise beschleunigt und vervielfältigt, bleibt für die ursprünglich damit einmal verfolgten Zwecke - Informationen zu beschaffen und auszutauschen - kaum noch Zeit; das Vorspiel wird das Eigentliche. Darin sind sich die Telekom und der Medienphilosoph Norbert Bolz einig: »Das wichtigste Wissen besteht heute darin, was man nicht zu wissen braucht« (Bolz 2000: 131). Wissen wird im Internet-Zeitalter zunehmend über Zugänglichkeit und immer weniger über den Code »wahr/falsch« qualifiziert.
