Abstract

Veränderungen in der Wirtschaft erzwingen einen bewussteren Umgang mit Wissen als wirtschaftlicher Ressource. Produktion und Märkte werden zunehmend flexibler. Die weltweite Koordination und ständige Anpassung an veränderte Bedingungen ist in vielen Unternehmen Realität. Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien verändern die Art des Wirtschaftens und bilden die Basis der Informationswirtschaft. Im Rahmen dieser Herausforderungen haben sich zwei Strömungen des Wissensmanagements entwickelt: Zum einen verändert sich der Fokus in der Informationstechnologie von der Datenverarbeitung zum Umgang mit Informationen und Kommunikation, zum anderen gewinnt der Austausch von Wissen zwischen Menschen enorm an Bedeutung. Die Methoden und Bausteine des Wissensmanagements können bei der Lösung moderner wirtschaftlicher Problemstellungen einen wertvollen Beitrag leisten. Unternehmen vernetzen sich in den neuen Wissensmärkten mit ihren Kunden und ihrer Umwelt. Innerhalb von Unternehmen wird das dort gewonnene Wissen mit Hilfe neuer Systeme flexibel verarbeitet. Jedoch kann Wissen nicht in gleicher Weise eingesetzt werden wie die klassischen Produktionsfaktoren Arbeit, Boden und Kapital. Da es aber die wesentliche Ressource darstellt, um die Produktivität eines Unternehmens zu steigern, muss Wissen als Produktivfaktor den effizienten und effektiven Einsatz der Produktionsfaktoren steuern.
