Content: "Der Bibliotheksverbund Bayern (BVB) hat sich Ende 2005 für den Einsatz von DigiTool in der aktuellen Version 3.0 entschieden. DigiTool wird in Zukunft als zentrales Repository für die Verbundbibliotheken genutzt. Bei der Auswahl des Systems war für den BVB ausschlaggebend, dass das einzusetzende System eine modulare, skalierbare Architektur bietet, über offene Schnittstellen verfügt und den problemlosen Datenaustausch mit anderen Anwendungen gewährleistet. Eine hohe Flexibilität bei der Handhabung der Metadaten und digitalen Objekte sowie die Möglichkeit, dass die beteiligten Bibliotheken in einem gemeinsamen Repository arbeiten können, waren weitere wichtige Faktoren. Dabei war besonders relevant, dass die Herkunft der Objekte transparent gekennzeichnet werden kann und die Bibliotheken die Möglichkeit besitzen, ihre Bestände autonom darstellen zu können. Als konsequente Fortsetzung der bereits vor einigen Jahren begonnenen retrospektiven Digitalisierung von Bibliotheksbeständen in Bayern werden im Rahmen einer Gesamtstrategie für den retrodigitalen Bestandsaufbau die technischen Voraussetzungen für das Management von digitalen Objekten in relevanten Größenordnungen geschaffen. DigiTool 3.0 dient dabei als zentrales System zur Verwaltung, Bereitstellung und Langzeitarchivierung von Digitalisaten und multimedialen Objekten. In einer ersten Pilotphase werden Objekte der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek sowie der Universitätsbibliothek Regensburg eingebracht; in der Folge wird der Teilnehmerkreis auf andere Bibliotheken ausgeweitet."
