Abstract

We live in information (or misinformation ?) age. We have knowledge management (spam seems unmanageable). It is time to look at knowledge from a more comprehensive perspective. In this paper we attempt to propose a unifying view of the study of knowledge in several distinct areas: neurology, psychiatry, psychology, linguistics, documentation, information science, logics and computer science. The term 'layer' is understood metaphorically, as it is usual in an information technology (hardware layer, operation system layer, ... ).
