Abstract

Gegenwartsgesellschaften zeichnen sich zunehmend dadurch aus, dass Wissen eine dominantere Bedeutung erhält, als dies in vergangenen Gesellschaften der Fall war (vgl. Stehr 2001). Dies betrifft vor allem den Bereich der Ökonomie und der damit verbundenen Allokation von Erwerbsmöglichkeiten. Dies betrifft aber auch den zentralen Bereich des Politischen, der zunehmend bemüht ist, politische Entscheidungen durch Expertengremien zu optimieren oder auch zu legitimieren. Für den Einzelnen bedeutet die sukzessive Zunahme von Wissensansprüchen seitens der Ökonomie die erhöhte Bereitschaft, sich Wissen anzueignen und, aufgrund der Schnelllebigkeit von Wissen, dieses ständig zu erneuern. Skizzenhaft formulieren lassen sich diese Entwicklungen in Schlagworten wie "lebenslanges Lernen", "Ende der klassischen Erwerbsbiographie" oder auch "Individualisierung". Aufgrund dieser Bedeutungssteigerung von Wissen, liegt es nahe, die normative Forderung zu erheben, alle Mitgliedern einer Gesellschaft mit den gleichen gesellschaftlichen Wissensbeständen auszustatten. Abgesehen von strukturellen Hindernissen (militärisches Geheimwissen, geheime Forschungen,...), die möglicherweise zu überwinden wären, haftet dieser Forderung jedoch der Mangel an, unrealistisch und zudem sinnlos zu sein. Dies lässt sich durch einen kurzen Blick auf die Lebensweltphänomenologie von Alfred Schütz (1982; Schütz/Luckmann 1994) verdeutlichen. Diese, durchaus wissenssoziologisch operierende Analyse, weist darauf hin, dass Akteure in einem hohen Maß selektiv auf Wissensbestände zurückgreifen und diese auch selektiv in Anschlag bringen. Diese Selektivität der Wissensbestände resultiert vornehmlich aus den individuell diversifizierten Wissenserwerbsbiographien. Angeschoben werden diese Biographien durch je unterschiedliche Relevanzen, die Schütz ausdifferenziert in die thematische Relevanz (ein Thema ist von Interesse), die Auslegungsrelevanz (sie bestimmt, welche Wissensbestände zur Definition und Bewältigung eines Themas aktualisiert werden) und die Motivationsrelevanz (Entwerfen von Handlungen), wobei im Prozess einer Situationsdefinition diese Relevanzschemata grundsätzlich ineinander greifen. Da die Erfahrungshorizonte unterschiedlicher Akteure in pluralistischen Gesellschaften grundsätzlich differieren, werden entsprechend unterschiedliche Wissensbestände akkumuliert, die zu unterschiedlichen Situationsdefinitionen führen, die dann ihrerseits unterschiedliche Anschlusshandlungen nahe legen, die schließlich wieder unterschiedliche Wissenserwerbsprozesse anstoßen. In einer griffigen Formulierung zusammengefasst hat dies Gregory Bateson (1987:123): "Informationen bestehen aus Unterschieden, die einen Unterschied machen."
