Abstract
Die Frankfurter Buchmesse öffnet heute ihre Hallen. Den erwarteten 280.000 Besuchern werden rund 382.000 Bücher und Medienprodukte geboten. Das Gastland Indien setzt literarische und kulinarische Akzente.

"Buchmesse 2006: Das heißt mehr als 1.000 Autoren und etliche Lesungen - aber auch Stars aus Film, Fernsehen, Wissenschaft und Politik. Und es heißt: mehr Verlage, mehr Ausstellungsfläche. Die Bücherschau stellt wieder neue Rekorde auf. Buchmessen-Direktor Juergen Boos nennt Dienstag bei der Eröffnungspressekonferenz stolz die jüngsten Zahlen zur wirtschaftlichen Seite der größten Bücherschau der Welt. Zur Eröffnung am Mittwochmorgen um 9 Uhr sind auf 13 Hallenebenen 7.272 Aussteller registriert. "Das sind 0,7 Prozent mehr als im Jahr zuvor", so Boos. Die Verlage kommen aus 113 Ländern (2005:101). Die vermietete Fläche ist um rund vier Prozent auf rund 172.000 Quadratmeter gewachsen. Das ist die ökonomische Basis für ein fünftägiges Fest von Literatur und Bildung, Unterhaltung und politischer Information. Direktor Boos betont die "Gesellschaftspolitik als dritte Säule" der Buchmesse, neben der Wirtschaft und der Kultur."
