Abstract

This paper describes the significant characteristics of archival materials and of archival methods of description and arrangement. Key sections of Archives, Personal Papers, and Manuscripts are explicated with particular reference to the ways in which this code reflects the nature of contemporary archival records and practice while remaining compatible with the style and structure of bibliographically oriented cataloging. The relationship of catalog records to other forms of archival finding aids is explained.
