Abstract

Dieser Artikel stellt die erweiterte Fassung eines öffentlichen Vortrags dar, den der Autor auf der Jahrestagung der Deutschen Mathematiker-Vereinigung im September 2006 in Bonn gehalten hat. Dieser Vortrag wendete sich an eine breite Zuhörerschaft. Erfreulicherweise waren viele junge Menschen unter den Zuhörern. Das Ziel des Vortrags war es, auf die Vielfalt und die Schönheit der Ideen aufmerksam zu machen, die von den Naturwissenschaften in die Mathematik und in umgekehrter Richtung fließen.
