Abstract
Wir sprechen von digitaler Information. Was ist aber Information? Vor etwa zwanzig Jahren untersuchte ich diese Frage dem etymologischen Wink folgend, den Carl-Friedrich von Weizsäcker gab: "Man beginnt sich daher heute daran zu gewöhnen, dass Information als eine dritte, von Materie und Bewusstsein verschiedene Sache aufgefasst werden muss. Was man aber damit entdeckt hat, ist an neuem Ort eine alte Wahrheit. Es ist das platonische Eidos, die aristotelische Form, so eingekleidet, dass auch ein Mensch des 20. Jahrhunderts etwas von ihnen ahnen lernt."

"Genau dieser Zirkel zwischen Sprache als Sprache und Sprache als Information ist das, was Weizsäcker im Blick hat, wenn er von Information als (sprachliche) Mitteilung und von Information im Sinne von Struktur (oder Form) eines Gegenstandes auffasst. Mit dieser doppelten Sichtweise von Information hat sich Weizsäcker öfter auseinandergesetzt. Information zielt auf Eindeutigkeit (und Genauigkeit) und befindet sich dabei in einem Geflecht mit der natürlichen Sprache. Was sie zum Ausdruck bringt, ist eben die Form eines Gegenstandes, wobei Weizsäcker in diesem (frühen) Vortrag die Frage offen lässt, inwiefern wir von Information jenseits der (menschlichen) Sprache sprechen können. Dies wird in den späteren Schriften vertieft und zwar im Sinne der bedeutungsschweren griechischen Begriffe: 'eidos', idea, 'typos' und 'morphe'. Dabei hängen beide Informationsbegriffe zusammen in einem Geflecht, sozusagen, wobei dann alles auf die Frage nach dem ,,lösenden Band" ankommt: Die gewusste Form ist zugleich die Form des Gegenstandes, das subjektive Wissen ist zugleich "objektivierte Semantik". Daraus leitet Weizsäcker zwei grundlegende Thesen, auf die er immer wieder zurückkommen wird, ab, nämlich: "Information ist nur, was verstanden wird." und "Information ist nur, was Information erzeugt."" ...
