Abstract
Dieser amerikanische Klassiker zum Einstieg in die unterschiedlichen theoretischen Ansätze der Entwicklungspsychologie hat sich einen festen Platz auf dem deutschen Markt erobert - als Ergänzungs- und Übersichtslektüre für Haupt- und Nebenfachstudenten in Psychologie und Pädagogik. Viele Fakten lassen sich erst vor dem theoretischen Hintergrund richtig verstehen, einordnen und nachhaltig für die Prüfung lernen. Der verhaltenspsychologische Ansatz zum Beispiel verdeutlicht, warum die Mutter-Kind-Bindung von Geburt an vorprogrammiert ist und beide wechselseitig ihre Mimik und Gestik verstehen, ohne viel lernen zu müssen; ergänzend zeigt Gibsons Wahrnehmungstheorie, auf welche Gefahrsignale Säuglinge automatisch reagieren - ein Krabbelkind bekommt an einer Balkonkante oder einer natürlichen Klippe Angst und krabbelt nicht weiter; Piagets Theorie der kognitiven Entwicklungsstufen ordnet die Lernschritte, in denen zunächst Konzepte und Regeln erworben werden, bevor logisch operationales Denken reift - ein Grund, warum in der Grundschule Mengentheorie zum Einüben abstrakt-logischen Denkens nicht funktionieren kann. Schließlich betonen soziale Lerntheorien und Kontexttheorien soziale und kulturelle Prägungen persönlicher Verhaltens- und Kommunikationsstile - und sind insofern insbesondere für die Schlüsselqualifikationen in der Wissens- und Informationsgesellschaft bedeutsam.
