Abstract

Bereits seit mehreren Jahren ist die Verbreitung von Open-Access-Repositorien in Deutschland vorbildlich. Inzwischen existiert an fast jeder Universität ein institutionelles Repository und für einige wenige Fächer gibt es auch bereits fachspezifische Repositorien. Für beide Arten von Repositorien ist der Inhalt bzw. die Inhaltsmenge der entscheidende Bewertungsmaßstab, doch das Füllen der Server mit Inhalt ist selten einfach. Anbieter disziplinärer und institutioneller Server sehen sich bei der Content-Akquise unterschiedlichen Problemen und Chancen gegenübergestellt. Institutionelle Repositorien verfügen in der Regel über eine große Nähe zur "Kundschaft" Wissenschaftler und sind bestrebt, den Output der jeweiligen Institution zu präsentieren. Wissenschaftler allerdings denken eher in Fächern als in Institutionen und wünschen möglichst nur einen fachlichen Einstieg, der ihnen sämtliche relevanten Quellen liefert. So erscheinen institutionelle Repositorien aus ihrer Sicht oft wie ein wenig attraktiver Gemischtwarenladen. Wissenschaftler sind daher wenig motiviert, ihre Publikationen in institutionelle Repositorien einzupflegen. Auch die Suche nach relevanten Fachinformationen auf einzelnen institutionellen Repositorien ergibt zumeist wenig Sinn und Suchmaschinen wie OAlster, die eine Suche über verschiedene Repositorien hinweg ermöglichen, sind den wenigsten Wissenschaftlern bekannt. Zudem sind in diesen Suchmaschinen überwiegend fachfremde Inhalte zu finden, so dass die Präzision der Suchresultate leidet. Schließlich bieten solche Repository-Metasuchmaschinen keine fachliche Erschließung oder ein Browsing über eine Fachklassifikation und disziplinäre Open-Access-Suchmaschinen sucht man (meist) vergebens.
Fachliche Repositorien hingegen können als zentraler Anlaufpunkt für informationssuchende Wissenschaftler fungieren und verfügen oft über Zusatzfeatures wie eine fachliche Erschließung bzw. eine Browsingoption über eine anerkannte Fachklassifikation. Trotz höherer Akzeptanz bei den Wissenschaftlern fehlt den Anbietern überregional, fachlich ausgerichteter Repositorien oft die besagte Nähe zum Wissenschaftler, die institutionelle Repositorien für die Gewinnung von Inhalt nutzen können. Zudem schließen Verlage, die das Self-Archiving von Postprints auf institutionellen Repositorien zulassen, teilweise fachliche Repositorien vom Self-Archiving aus - vermutlich wegen der Befürchtung, auf einem fachlichen Repository aggregierte Postprint-Veröffentlichungen könnten zu Lasten der Zeitschriftennachfrage gehen. Bei genauerer Betrachtung fällt auf, dass die Stärken und Schwächen von fachlichen und institutionellen Repositorien teilweise komplementär sind und dass in enger Zusammenarbeit der Repositorien untereinander wesentliche Verbesserungen herbeigeführt werden könnten, um Inhalt für die Repositorien zu generieren, stärker auf die Bedürfnisse der Wissenschaftler einzugehen und Publikationen aus Deutschland auch international sichtbarer zu machen. Um Synergieeffekte für beide Modelle zu schaffen, verabredeten die Bibliothek der Universität Konstanz als Betreiberin von KOPS und die Saarländische Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek (SULB) das Überspielen der Metadaten der Veröffentlichungen der Konstanzer Psychologen auf das disziplinäre Repository PsyDok der SULB.
