Abstract

Ziel dieses Beitrags ist es, die Zukunftsaussichten der intellektuellen in haltlichen Erschließung - mit dem Schwerpunkt bei der verbalen Erschließung - unter dem Einfluss veränderter Rahmenbedingungen einzuschät zen. Es geht um Chancen und Gefährdungen, die sich aus Veränderungen im Umfeld der bibliothekarischen Erschließung ergeben; es geht darüber hinaus um die Reformen und Anstrengungen, die von bibliothekarischer Seite zu unternehmen sind, um den Herausforderungen des Umfelds gerecht zu werden. Als Umfeld der bibliothekarischen Sacherschließung werden betrachtet: - neue Leitlinien und Prinzipien, - neue Regelwerke und Datenformate, - aktuelle politisch-organisatorische Rahmenbedingungen, - und der Wandel von Medien und Informationstechnik, womit zugleich die Grobgliederung des Beitrags angezeigt ist. Angesichts der beschriebenen Entwicklungen stellt sich für die intellektuelle Erschließung die Frage, [how] to remain relevant and vital in an increasingly digital future? Hierauf werden abschließend stichwortartig einige Antworten skizziert.
